History of Vehicle:
This 1984 Camaro was built in Norwood, Ohio, U.S.A. The total
production for Camaros
in that model year was 261,591. This car was the 115,483rd.
built. By decoding the
VIN#, confirmation is made that this car is in fact a 1984 Camaro
Sport Coupe. This
car was purchased by the present owner, Mr. Veloce, three years
ago from a service
station in Orono. Apparently, the previous owner extensively
customized the car with a complete aftermarket “Body Kit” consisting of
fiberglass body panels and moulding them
onto the exterior of the car. The car has been repainted
recently and is not only very
unusual but quite attractive.
Body Condition
The car has been re-painted just last year and is a pearl white
colour. The body-work on the car consists of a complete after-market “Body Kit”
which has been grafted onto the side panels, doors, fenders, front end and rear
end. The rear “hatch” appears to be a separate custom unit made of fiberglass.
The body is extremely straight, no signs of rust, scratches, dents or holes
anywhere. The body-work appears to be professionally done as well as the paint
job on the car. Underneath the car appears to have been undercoated and
although there are some slight signs of rust it appears to be clean and in good
order. The floors, frame-rails, rocker panels and the remainder of the
undercarraige all appears to be in good shape
Glass
All of the glass in this car is tinted and in
excellent condition. There are no marks,
scratches or cracks anywhere. This car has
the optional “T-Roof” panels in the roof
area and they are also in good condition. The
present owner has replaced with new,
the seals in “T-Roof” panels.
Bumpers
The front and rear bumpers are the original
style, moulded into the body and painted
body colour. The bumpers are in perfect
condition
Engine
This car has the original style “small block” V-8 motor. This is
not the original engine,
as the VIN number indicates the car was originally powered with a
305 cubic inch
(5.0 litre) 150 hp V-8. The car now has a 350 cubic inch (5.7
litre) V-8 with 4 barrel
carb. This engine has aftermarket chrome valve covers and chrome
breather. The
engine runs excellent, no unusual noises, does not appear to burn
oil and seems very
powerful. The engine compartment seems clean and there is no
sign of any leaks on
the engine. The firewall and engine compartment and inner
fenders are also original
and in very good condition. The radiator and hoses, fan belt,
plug wires and all other
accessories appear to be in excellent condition.
Transmission
The transmission is the original GM 4 speed automatic. The
transmission has an aftermarket “shift kit” installed. It is in good working
order and there is no evidence of any leakage.
Brakes and Suspension
It has the original style, front disc brakes and rear mechanical
brakes and all are in good working order. The suspension is the original type
and there are no broken springs or shocks and everything is in good working
order.
Wheel and Tires
This car has a relatively new set of four “aftermarket” Eagle
Alloy wheels. On the front the wheels are 6 inches wide and have BF Goodrich
P215/65/R15 tires in good condition. The rear wheels are 10 inches wide and
have BF Goodrich P275/60/R15 tires which appear about half worn. The four
aluminum alloy wheels are in like new condition.
Exhaust System
This car is equipped with a dual exhaust system with catalytic
converters and mufflers and twin pipes. There are no leaks and the system is in
good condition.
Interior
This car has the original style interior, with bucket seats in
the front and a bench seat in the rear. The front seats have been replaced by
the owner and although they are the correct style and pattern, are slightly
lighter in colour than the rear seats. The driver’s seat has a small bit of
wear on the left side. The passenger seat and rear seat are both in excellent
condition. The headliner, door panels and carpet are all in good condition.
The padded dash is in perfect condition. The car is equipped with a tachometer
and other gauges and all seem in good working order. There are a few gauges in
the centre console that are missing (clock). The interior of the car is quite
presentable.
Rear Axle
This car has the original stock rear axle and is in good working
order.
Options
This car has a number of options which include; air conditioning,
power door locks,
power windows, power trunk release, electric seats, cruise
control, tachometer and
T-Top roof panels
Radio & Speakers
The car has a fairly new Kenwood CD player which is mounted in
the dash. In the
trunk is a 300 watt Sub Woofer with tweeters- 2 portable
mid-range speakers and two
6 by 9 inch speakers in the doors. All are in good working
order.
Summary
This is a very unusual ’84 Camaro. The installation of the
after-market “Body Kit” makes it a very attractive and collectible vehicle that
certainly attracts a lot of attention. The installation of the “Body Kit” was
obviously professionally done and would likely be an expensive and
time-consuming project. This car is very functional and in good working
order. The present owner has had the car for 3 years and it has been on the
road the entire time but only used for pleasure driving. This car would be
rated as a good #3 (“Completely operable original or “older restoration, all
presentable and serviceable inside and out. Plus, combinations of well-done
restoration and good operable components”)
Evaluation
According to Price Guide Magazine, (values are
based on data from collector car
auctions, verified reports on private sales and input from
experts), a 1984 Camaro
rated as a #3 is valued at $3700 U.S. ($5150 Can.). However,
this car has had a fresh
paint job and considerable expense in customizing the car with
the “Body Kit” and has
a 350 V-8 in place of the original 305.
Value
My opinion is based on a number of factors- prices listed in
magazines such as Old
Auto Trader, Cars and Parts, Old Autos Magazine and Price Guide
Magazine in the
United States .
Based on the above, I would evaluate the replacement value of
this
car at
$9,000 (Canadian).
This includes all taxes.
Will Sell for $ 8,000
